Catskill history collection finds home in Mamakating

Posted

The Mamakating Library has obtained a new collection: The S. David Phraner Local History Collection. This curated collection includes over 40 books donated by author S. David Phraner. The collection is geared toward the history of transportation in the Catskills, with subjects including the O&W Railroad, Roebling Bridge and the D&H Canal.

Phraner, who can trace his family’s footsteps through Sullivan County back to 1928, is an author of several books including a book on Wolf Lake’s history, “Wolf Tales.” As the great-grandson of a lock tender on the D&H Canal, Phraner wanted the most culturally and geographically appropriate home for his transportation heritage collection. He chose Mamakating Library.

The collection can be enjoyed in the library, and most volumes are available for borrowing by patrons.

The Mamakating Library is located at 128 Sullivan St. For more information visit www.mamakatinglibrary.org.
