Resorts World Casino to open on September 9

MONTICELLO, NY —  Resorts World Catskills will open on September 9, according to NY Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther, via a phone call and NYS Senator Jen Metzger via press release. Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued his decision on September 3 that casinos can open at 25-percent capacity on the 9th.

There will be no table games.

Gunther said that she worked closely with state officials,  bringing them to the casino facility to highlight the public health safety measures that are now in place. She thanked the governor and his representatives for finding a "pathway to reopening."

Metzger said that she was "impressed by the lengths to which the Resorts World has gone to create a safe environment for guests and team members during this pandemic, including installing hospital-grade air filters that constantly bring in fresh air, plexiglass dividers throughout gambling and eating areas, and extensive cleaning and social distancing protocols. "

“What does this mean?” Gunther said, “Jobs, jobs and jobs. It’s money for the county and money for our schools... Resorts World employs more than one thousand people in Sullivan County, providing health insurance as well as a living wage. The casino’s reopening will provide Sullivan County with tremendous economic activity. Above all else, our union brothers and sisters deserve a safe environment in which to return to work. As a registered nurse, I will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure that safety remains a priority.”

Metzger agreed: "Resorts World Catskills is vital to the economy of Sullivan County as a top employer and critical source of tax revenue for the Town of Thompson and Sullivan County government in this challenging time. I am confident that the casino has taken, and will continue to take, every precaution for the health and safety of guests and employees."
