Bulldogs win homecoming game

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — The Sullivan West football team (2-0) defeated the visiting Bears of Tri-Valley (0-2) 16-8 during their under-the-lights homecoming game on Friday, March 26.

Before the opening kickoff, a brief ceremony on the turf honored the squad’s five seniors: #7 Jason Lowe, #28 Justin Leconey, #34 Jason Gaebel, #56 Andrew Crandall and #59 Frank Decker.

The Bulldogs seniors proved their mettle on the home gridiron, as Gaebel scored a touchdown (TD) in the first frame, added another two points on a conversion run and, in the fourth quarter, posted his second two-point conversion on Leconey’s TD.

Scoring plays: Sullivan West’s Jason Gaebel scored on a two-yard rush at 8:48 in the first frame, and then added two points on a conversion run. At 4:12 in the fourth quarter, Sullivan West’s Justin Leconey scored on a two-yarder, then posted points on a conversion run. Tri-Valley got on the scoreboard at 1:54 in the final frame as Austin Hartman scored a TD on a 17-yard dash, and followed up with a two-point conversion on the ground.

Total offense for Sullivan West was 132 yards on 33 plays; Tri-Valley traveled 216 yards on 62 plays.

Leading rushers (SW): Jason Gaebel (93 yards on 14 attempts), Justin Leconey (28 yards on 10 attempts) and Gavin Hauschild (10 yards on 8 attempts).

Leading rushers (TV): Brian Kelly (74 yards on 11 attempts), Austin Hartman (73 yards on 33 attempts) David Allison (31 yards on seven attempts) and Dylan Poley (20 yards on five attempts).
