POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — On Saturday, November 13, the Sullivan West Bulldogs, the top-seeded squad in Section IX 8-man football, had a rematch with the second-ranked Spartans of Spackenkill.

But unlike their initial early-season outing against Spackenkill, during which they edged their opponents 26-22 on September 10, the “Dawgs” were sent packing 54-12 in the NYSPHSAA Section IX championship, in a contest that saw the Spartans turn the tables on the team that handed them their only regular-season loss of the year.

With the win, the Spartans made local history for their high school by posting their only football championship title.

Spackenkill’s QB Anthony Hoyt passed for 205 yards, had three TDs and picked up 211 yards on the turf, including an 83-yarder.

Adding points for the Spartans, who scored 34 points in the second half: Steven Ciancio’s TD reception and a pick for a score, TD receptions by Kevin Mullins and Antonio Lopez and rushing scores by Dan Collins and Hunter Gent.
