TOWN OF THOMPSON, NY — Environmental conservation officers responded to illegal burns in several counties before and after a statewide ban on residential brush burning took effect.
Officers Christopher Doroski, Glen Parker, Ricky Wood, and Michael Buckley issued tickets to multiple New Yorkers for illegally burning brush and other debris during the burn ban, including for a large brush fire in the Town of Thompson, in Sullivan County, that required the response of several local fire companies.
In the Town of Deerpark, in Orange County, local firefighters extinguished a pile of burnt household waste.
A property owner in Erie County was ticketed for burning the remains of a barn. In Greene County, officers found fire pits in two locations that were burning construction and demolition debris. It is unlawful to burn anything other than clean wood in New York State.
The New York State Burn Ban went into effect on March 16 and runs through May 14.
