Livestreaming the LDC

MONTICELLO, NY — Sullivan County has been streaming its meetings, much to the gratitude of people who can’t be there and still want to know what’s going on, or those who are staying away from gatherings due to the pandemic.

The meetings of the adult care center’s local development corporation, though, aren’t streamed, even though they also take place in the legislative hearing room.

Since the LDC first met in early September, several frequent attendees have been requesting that those meetings be streamed too.

“The times those meetings take place may not be conducive to having the public be able to attend,” said Lou Setren at the Health and Family Services Committee meeting in October.

The LDC meets in mid-to-late afternoon.

Others have pointed out that seniors are interested and are more cautious about leaving their homes these days.

“We have repeatedly asked that the meetings be livestreamed so members of the public have the opportunity to witness what’s going on,” Setren said.

He noted that the county has said that an audio recording will be linked to the county’s website and that minutes will be posted.

“The LDC board is not required to livestream its meetings, and the board has not elected to do so,” said Dan Hust, county director of communications.

Those who wish to follow the proceedings of the LDC should check the county site for the meeting dates, agendas and (as of this writing) the September minutes: www.sullivanny.us/Departments/sunset-
lake-local-development-corporation. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 29 at 4:30 p.m.

Budgeting time

MONTICELLO, NY — Mark your calendars: Sullivan County’s budget meetings are scheduled.

At the October 8 meeting, Management and Budget Committee chair George Conklin announced a schedule for discussions of the county’s budget for 2021.

Thursdays, November 5, 12, and 19 are the dates, and they’ll be held after the day’s committee meetings are done.

The county has until Sunday, December 20 to adopt the budget.

The meetings are public.

COVID-positive staff at the care center and other news

MONTICELLO, NY — At the October 8, Health and Family Services Committee meeting, department of social services commissioner John Liddle (subbing in for Stephanie Brown) reported that four staff members tested positive at the Care Center at Sunset Lake. “There are no COVID-positive residents,” he said. Residents are tested every three to seven days for 14 days, per Department of Health regulations. This kicks in every time there is a positive case in the facility.

In other news, he said, “the census is 87 residents.” The number has “remained fairly consistent over the last few weeks.” Three people applied for the new temporary administrator position, one dropped out because of the salary offered, and “two people are good candidates,” he said. Interviews were conducted in early October.

Public health director Nancy McGraw reported that the county’s certified home health agency logged 1,366 visits in August, and 702 of those were nursing care-related. “Productivity is way up,” she said, “to four visits a day.”
