Blanche Kuester of Beach Lake, PA died Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale, PA. She was 95.

She is preceded in death by her husband Karl B. Kuester, who died on June 28, 1999. The couple married December 1, 1936.

Born July 22, 1916 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Pauline Nycz Michalek.

Following the death of her father, she quit school at age 12 to help support the family. She was the youngest worker at the White Mills silk mill. At 15 she moved to New Jersey to work for an uncle and aunt who had a bakery business. She met her husband and together they opened their own bakery in Jersey City. She assisted in running the businesses, doing accounting and secretarial work when necessary.

In 1948 they moved to Beach Lake and the family farm. Twenty years later they purchased what became The Community Pastry Shop and ran that until October 1981.

She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Honesdale.

Blanche was a devoted wife and loving mother who enjoyed sewing.

She is survived by her son Carl Kuester of Honesdale, sister-in-law Florence Moser of Honesdale, six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is also preceded in death by sons Frederick and Robert; brothers Edward and Raymond Michalek; and sister Helen Miller.

As per her request, private funeral services will be held at the family’s convenience with interment in Indian Orchard Cemetery.
