Connecting aspiring farmers to experienced growers

PENNSYLVANIA — The Diversified Vegetable Apprenticeship is a new apprenticeship program that connects beginning farmers with master growers. Apprentices get the opportunity to learn how to manage or start their own farm, while master growers gain an invested, committed employee. Over 18 months, apprentices will receive more than 2,700 hours of on-the-job training, more than 200 hours of related technical coursework and a scheduled pay raise every six months. Apprentices must have demonstrated a genuine interest in farming as a career and be at least 18 years old. Master growers must have at least five years of farm management experience, produce at least 10 different vegetable crops per year and be able to financially support a full-time employee. This apprenticesip program has received formal approval from the PA Department of Labor and Industry. For all requirements and more information, visit www.bit.ly/dvapaTRR.
