Barbara A. Curry, 84, a longtime resident of Narrowsburg, NY, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020.

The daughter of the late James and Dorothy Nelson, she was born in 1936 in Camden, NJ. Barbara held a Bachelor of Arts in history from Swarthmore College and a Master’s in social work from Columbia University. Before retiring in 2000, she worked for 35 years in service placement and coordination for families with disabled children in Rockland and Sullivan counties. After retiring, she was an active volunteer with the Sunshine Hall Free Library in Eldred and the Eagle Institute (Delaware Highlands Conservancy) in Lackawaxen, PA.

Barbara was a loving and caring person with quiet pleasures. She enjoyed reading, gardening and bird watching in her leisure time. She will be remembered by friends and family as thoughtful and down-to-earth; a welcoming hostess who was always ready to listen; and a fierce competitor at field hockey and croquet.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 59 years, John F. Curry; daughters Susan Curry Deeks of Greenwood Lake, NY, Catherine Curry of Lake Placid, NY and Anne Curry Belt and her husband, John Belt, of North Myrtle Beach, SC; son John Curry and his wife, Catherine Mulcahy, of New York City, and grandson, Edmund Curry; and caregiver and close friend Michelle Cleary of Barryville, NY.

Because of the COVID-19 restrictions, a memorial celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at a later date.
