HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance (WCAA) Gallery is hosting “Idle Hours,” an art show and concept curated by Dan Nelson of Happy Tattoo.
An opening reception will be held on Friday, August 9 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The exhibit is currently on view at the gallery.
The show features nine tattoo artists. Tattooing is a job; however, most outsiders view it as an art form. Tattooers themselves tend to view tattooing as a trade. Like many trades, there are traditions and rules which have been set forth by those who came before. Because of the intensity of the work, the hyperfocus, the showmanship and the one-on-one nature of the process, the exhausted tattooer often clocks out after work.
Idle Hours is an attempt to highlight those who don’t let tattooing get in the way of pursuing art.
The show features tattooers from across the U.S., who in addition to exhibiting their work will be tattooing live in the gallery on Saturday and Sunday, August 10 and 11. The artists are J. Adams, Jacob Des, Hillary Fisher-White, Chris Kline, Ryan Mettz, Amelia Martin, Jeff Pfeil, A.P. Shrewsbury, Erik Von Bartholomaus—and as a special neon accompaniment, Wayne Heller (MoonSignNYC).
The show will run until Friday, August 30. The gallery is located at 959 Main St. Hours are Thursdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
