Arrest in Livingston Manor hit & run

State Police at Liberty announce the arrest of Ray Salonich, age 33 of Lew Beach, NY for leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident that took the life of a Livingston Manor man on August 21, 2017.  

 On the evening of August 21st, State Police responded to a report of two pedestrians being struck on Old Route 17 in Livingston Manor, NY.  Gemeal Wallace Sr, age 30 and his 14 year old son were walking on the shoulder of the roadway when both were struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene.  The elder Wallace was transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY where he later succumbed to his injuries.  His son suffered only minor injuries. 

An ensuing investigation identifed Ray Salonich as the driver of a 2004 Chevrolet pickup that had struck Wallace and his son.  Salonich was arrested on August 22nd and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death, a Class D Felony.  He was arraigned in the Town of Rockland Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.  The investigation is continuing and State Police ask anyone who may have information related to the case contact investigators at 845-292-6600.  Calls can be kept confidential. 

State Police at Liberty were assisted by the Troop F Major Crimes Unit, Troop F Computer Crimes Unit, Troop F Forensic Identification Unit, and the Sullivan County District Attorney's Office.
