HANCOCK, NY—The annual One Bug fly-fishing tournament invites two-person fishing teams to Hancock, where the East and West branches of the Delaware River meet. Contestants must fish with only “one bug” for the entire day of fishing. Friends of the Upper Delaware River (FUDR), a non-profit group that advocates on behalf of the water, the wildlife and the residents of the region, hosts the event to raise funds to support their work.

The 5th annual One Bug, held April 27-29 in Hancock, was the most successful to date, netting nearly $30,000, said Dan Plummer, chairman of the organization’s board. He estimated the event pumped more than $50,000 into local businesses in the days leading up to and over the 2012 One Bug weekend.

The highlight of this year’s One Bug was the announcement that the Hancock Central School now offers a fly-fishing class for students. Linda O’Brien of the Hancock Community Education Foundation spearheaded the effort, and FUDR helped out by awarding the foundation $1000. The Code Blue Foundation, a FUDR partner, added another $500 donation to sweeten the pot.

Winners of the awards for individuals were Ryan Bunn, 490 points in first place; Ken Lagerveld, 410 points in second place; Terry Di Sabitino and Dan Plummer, 360 points, in a tie for third place. The winning team was Patagonia (Ryan Bunn & Ken Lagerveld), 900 points; with Mama Luke, 700 points in second place and Delaware Sharks, 650 points, in third place.
