SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County (CCESC) Caregiver Resource Center partners with the Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter to offer free workshops in May. These educational events will be held at various locations across Sullivan County.

Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia will be held on Friday, May 3 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Sunshine Hall Free Library in Eldred. Participants will learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s, the difference between Alzheimer’s and other dementias, Alzheimer’s disease stages and risk factors, Alzheimer’s Association resources and current research and treatments available to address some symptoms.

Living with Alzheimer’s is a three-part series that will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays May 7, 14 and 21 at the Daniel Pierce Library in Grahamsville. This series will focus on the early stage, offering practical answers to the questions that arise after diagnosis. People who have been directly affected will share their experiences and discuss what you can do to cope with the changes that come with an early-stage diagnosis.

Dementia Conversations will take place on Thursday, May 23 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Mamakating Library. This workshop will offer tips on how to have honest and caring conversations with family members about deciding when to stop driving, going to the doctor and making legal and financial plans.
