MONTICELLO, NY — Firefighters battled a blaze in an abandoned house on Wednesday, May 22.
At 4:07 p.m., the Monticello Fire Department says it was dispatched by Sullivan County 911 to a structure fire at Waverly Avenue and Cherry Blossom Lane in the Village of Monticello. Shortly afterward, the Monticello Police reported a working structure fire in an abandoned building.
A second alarm was issued for Monticello and mutual aid from Rock Hill and the Bethel FAST Team, according to the Monticello FD. Additional mutual aid was called from Liberty to standby in Monticello and Wurtsboro on standby in Rock Hill Firehouse. Other units on scene were Sullivan County Bureau of Fire Investigators, Mobilemedic EMS, Monticello Police, Sullivan County Sheriff, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, and Village of Monticello Code Enforcement.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Sullivan County Bureau of Fire.
Monticello units remained on the scene until 6:30 p.m.
