GREELEY, PA — If you like thrift shopping or just checking out the latest new small business in town, you won’t want to miss the clothing thrift shop that recently opened at 223 Rte. 590, next to St. Luke’s Church.
It’s an unexpected find called Redress, in a spot that hides what’s behind the door.
You might have low expectations as you enter the church parking lot. But once you cross the threshold, it’s as if you have stepped into a different world.
You’ll discover that there is not just one floor but two in this unexpectedly huge space. The decor looks and feels fun, whimsical and charming. The theme is hot pink, the vibe is ‘80s coolness. Even the music is retro.
Walk in to see walls of cleverly hung jewelry and handbags, to which you will immediately be drawn. Turn the corner and find a room centered by a comfy, turquoise blue couch surrounded by colorful dresses and vintage clothing. Go down the hallway to another huge room full of blouses, tops, pants, skirts and shoes.
If you head to the bottom floor, you will find even more clothing, including menswear and a large clearance section where every item costs only $5.
Redress is more of an experience than just a clothing thrift shop. Customers think they’ll just pop in for a look and end up spending hours there. It’s over 2,500 feet filled with over 27,000 items, including many new items with their tags. No two things are the same, and there are high-end brands you may never have heard of—like Farm Rio, Vince and Theory, as well as more familiar ones like Free People, Chico’s and J. Crew. There are retro items from the 1940s to the 2000s. There are items you’ll also see at the mall right now.
The owner welcomes you with a free latte or cappuccino when you walk in. If it’s a lucky day, you might also be greeted by the adorable shop dog, who loves new people. Sit on the big blue couch and chat for a while if you like. Ask questions, as the owner has been thrifting for decades and knows just about every brand and when every item was created. Or just chat and enjoy some conversation. The staff wants you to feel at home.
Customers who normally shop in large thrift shops in Brooklyn and Manhattan are making the trip to Redress now to get the real bargains. It’s a true gem right here in the heart of the Poconos. Shop hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
