HONESDALE, PA — Four new teachers completed their Wayne Highlands School District (WHSD) orientation on Wednesday, August 17, and are ready to begin the new school year. Honesdale High School (HHS) science teacher Marisa Avery, Preston Middle School math teacher Dustin Roberts, HHS nurse Lacey Utegg and HHS long-term Spanish substitute Robert Wasylyk are ready to start the year.

“New teacher orientation is a vital part of the district’s teacher induction program,” said assistant superintendent Timothy Morgan. “New teachers are paired with experienced mentor teachers who volunteer from their grade level or content area.” Additionally, the district provides professional support through mentoring teachers in their first and second years. “The main purpose of the day is to explain the educational philosophies, policies and methods the new teachers will need in providing an exemplary educational program,” Morgan said.

Also participating in the orientation were WHSD superintendent Gregory Frigoletto, Wayne Highlands Education Association member Christopher Piasecki, director of special education Amanda Kerna, assistant director of special education Erika Cavanaugh, district technology supervisor Scott Miller and reading specialist and Lakeside Elementary School/professional education committee co-chair Elliot Zackoski.
