Alzheimer’s is a progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions. Brain cell connections and the cells themselves degenerate and die. Age is the most significant factor, while memory loss and confusion are the main symptoms. At present, there is no cure.
Now in its third year in Sullivan County, the Sullivan Freeze for the Cure fundraiser took place in White Lake, NY over the weekend, and while I may be perpetually confused about what the event is called, there’s no doubt that it raises awareness and funds in an effort to see this global scourge eliminated.
"At the door with donations and raffle sales brought in $500. Others that joined the subzero site because we host this event account for almost $1,500. Three sponsors that donate because the event is local brings in another $2,000, "said Terry Grafmuller. "All together this is $4,000-plus that would have never made it to the Alzheimer Association if not for this event."
No, I didn’t jump last Saturday, but more than 50 brave souls did, with scores of supporters showing up to lend their support, and help raise much-needed funds and awareness regarding the dreaded disease from which no one should ever have to suffer. I took scads of pics, which you can like, tag and share from our Facebook page. I’m including some here, with commentary from a smattering of the many participants who, despite the seriousness of the subject at hand, had a great time (IMHO) showing up to lend a not-quite-frostbitten helping hand. Man, that water is cold.
