A celebration for a historic bridge

NARROWSBURG, NY —  There will be a celebration of the historic Skinners Falls Bridge on Sunday, January 12, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Narrowsburg Union, 7 Erie Ave. The event will be a potluck with tributes to this unique one-lane steel truss bridge, which has spanned the Delaware River since 1902.

Special guests will include the descendants of the original builders and investors. There will be performance and other art inspired by the iconic structure, which is on the National Register of Historic Places in two categories. According to PennDOT, Skinners Falls Bridge is scheduled for demolition at the end of January or the beginning of February 2025. On December 16, 2024, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro signed an emergency order for the demolition of the bridge. Gov. Shapiro and other government officials will be invited to attend this event.

All members of the public are welcome to come and to contribute to the creative commentary that is described in a June 2024 interview on WJFF: (www.wjffradio.org/concerned-citizens-create-art-to-preserve-skinners-falls-bridge).

The event is free, but RSVP to 272/999-6511 or saveskinners@gmail.com to help facilitate planning.
