Finally, it is starting to feel a bit like spring! I’m looking forward to all the activities and events that the Sullivan Catskills has to offer. There are a variety of events taking place in the upcoming weeks.

The Ladies Aid Society will hold a penny social on Saturday, April 30 at the Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church. The doors open at 11:30 a.m. and calling starts at 12:30 p.m. Hot dogs and sauerkraut and beverages are available for purchase. There will be cake and coffee after the calling. Masks are required. The donation is $1. Hope to see you there!

Don’t miss the opportunity to help beautify the Delaware River corridor from Earth Day on Friday, April 22 through Saturday, April 30. The Upper Delaware Council is coordinating a cleanup of the roadside areas and public properties abutting 73.4 miles of the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River in both New York and Pennsylvania.

You can work on your own or join a team organized by the Litter Leader in your area. You’ll be given team T-shirts, safety equipment, gloves and bags, and will be advised on how to dispose of the collected litter debris. A cleaner river valley is up to you—join a Litter Sweep team today!

Sign up to be a litter warrior by calling Ashley at 845/252-3022, or see more details at www.upperdelawarecouncil.org and www.facebook.com/UpperDelawareCouncil.

Join the Delaware Youth Center for a cleanup day on Saturday, April 30. Bring your shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, gardening tools, lots of energy and a friend. The youth center can use all the help it can get to prepare for the spring and summer seasons. This is perfect for volunteer hours for school, college, 4-H etc. The youth center is located at 8 Creamery Rd. in Callicoon. Email info@delawareyouthcenter.org for more information.

Lander’s River Trips is opening for river trips on Saturday, April 30. Book your first adventure this weekend and for its full season. Choose from rafting, kayaking, canoeing and tubing. Visit www.landersrivertrips.com or call 800/252-3925.

Join the Lake Huntington Fire Company and the American Red Cross to give blood on Thursday, April 28 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sound the alarm. Save a life. The need has never been greater. Your donation has the power to save up to three lives. Most medications will not disqualify you, so sign up to save lives now. Set up an appointment online at http://tinyurl.com/lhfcbloodapril28.

If you have a local business to spotlight in an upcoming column, get in touch. Email jenn@jennpowelldesigns.com with any news, events and happenings.
