Although few in number, the Chapel Field girls placed in two events: 3rd, 4th 800; 3rd, 4th 1,500.

Sullivan West’s Bryce Maopolski won the boys’ 2,000 steeplechase with a time of 6:42. His teammates also placed in several other events: 3rd, 5th 3200; 3rd, 4th, 6th 800; 3rd, 5th 110 hurdles; 3rd 100 dash; 2nd, 4th long jump; 1st, 5th, 6th 2,000 steeplechase; 4th, 6th high jump; 1st, 2nd, 6th discus; 2nd, 5th, 6th shot; 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th triple jump; 2nd 400; 2nd, 4th, 5th 1600; 2nd 400 hurdles.

The Monticello girls placed in numerous events: 1st 3,000; 3rd, 5th long jump; 2nd, 6th shot; 5th 800; 3rd, 5th 100 hurdles; 3rd, 5th, 6th 100 dash; 2nd, 4th, 6th 400; 4th, 5th triple jump; 1st, 6th discus; 1st 1,500.

The Liberty boys placed in several events: 1st, 5th 800; 4th 110 hurdles; 4th, 6th 100; 1st long jump; 2nd, 3rd high jump; 4th discus; 3rd shot; 1st triple jump; 4th 400; 4th 400 hurdles, 2nd, 3rd 200.

The Fallsburg boys placed in three events: 6th 100 hurdles; 4th 2,000 steeplechase, 3rd discus.

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — On Wednesday afternoon, May 15, Sullivan West hosted the 15th annual Donna Deppa Invitational track and field meet in honor of a beloved teacher’s aide who passed away at the age of 51 after valiantly battling cancer.

**Ron Bauer** has been coaching track and field at Sullivan West for more than five decades, and during that time has inspired numerous scholar athletes to ever-greater heights of performance, both on-and-off the field.

A highly valued member of the local community, Deppa (May 3, 1959–January 25, 2011) was an avid fan and strong supporter of track and field who volunteered a significant amount of time to the school’s program.

Both her daughters Rebecca and Rachel competed throughout all three seasons of high school sports, and at the untimely passing of their mother, Rachel was a member of the Sullivan West girls’ thinclads.

The annual event was previously known as the Sullivan County Meet of Champions, but the name was subsequently changed to honor Deppa’s memory and create a sports legacy that carries on today.

While the players have changed over the years, this year’s event featured scholar athletes from Sullivan West, Monticello, Liberty, Fallsburg, Chester and Chapel Field.

Just before the start of the steeplechase events, the Sullivan West track and field seniors were honored with the traditional presentation of flowers to their folks.

The event served as an opportunity for several local teams to fine-tune their skills before the start of the OCIAA track and field championships on Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18 at Warwick High School.
