Ok, so... it's not the 5th of November yet... however, my days have been filled with fireworks and surprises just the same.
English Folk Verse (c.1870)
The Fifth of November
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes and his companions
Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
All up alive.
Threescore barrels, laid below,
To prove old England's overthrow.
But, by God's providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
A stick and a stake
For King James's sake!
If you won't give me one,
I'll take two,
The better for me,
And the worse for you.
A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,
A penn'orth of cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to wash it down,
And a jolly good fire to burn him.
Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!
If you didn't know, November 5th marks the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot, when Catholic explosive expert Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament and Britons everywhere set fire to things.
Well, November for me has come in with a bang. In the form of a 9 point buck. Into my nice little VW. Well, it WAS nice anyhow.
Let's not focus on that though. Lets find some fun 5th of November things.
I think it's interesting that more people know this quote from V for Vendetta than anything else.
Because, if you're like me, you've never seen it.
Though maybe, instead of driving around I should stay in and watch a movie....
