REGION — Six Sullivan County dairy farms may have to close their doors at the end of June because of cancelled milk contracts; 52 dairy farms across New York State received cancellation notices.That sparked a dairy discussion at a meeting of the Sullivan County Senior Legislative Action Committee on June 1.

Rural recovery outreach

REGION — A New York State grant awarded to Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange and Sullivan Counties has resulted in the formation of Center of Treatment Innovation (CTI), a targeted response to the opioid crisis in Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties.

The coming of the charging stations

REGION — With the ascendance of electric vehicles, charging stations have been opening up in our area, providing an opportunity for locals and visitors to charge their vehicles in some nine locations in the region.

Whole-house generators

REGION — The purpose of a whole-house generator or back-up generator is to provide electricity for the entire house when the power goes out. No doubt lots of people in our region were wishing they had installed such a generator before the blizzard and snowstorms of March.

Portable generator or whole house?

REGION — Most people living in the region have lost power in their homes a time or two, and because of the March 2 blizzard, many homes were without power for days. Not surprisingly, lots of residents are considering preparing against the next bout of nature-imposed darkness by shopping for a generator.
