Press release from District Attorney Jim Farrell's office:

Sullivan County District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Davante Robinson, aka “Benji”, 21, of East Orange, N.J. was sentenced on September 17, 2018, in Sullivan County Court by County Judge Frank LaBuda to a total of 11 years in state prison and 5 years of post-release supervision for his role in the trafficking of heroin in Sullivan County.

Farrell said that the investigation into Robinson and his associates started in June of 2017 and continued through September of 2017 and during the investigation police officers purchased over one thousand five hundred bags of heroin from Robinson.  Farrell said that the investigation revealed that Robinson had no ties or connection to Sullivan County, other than his heroin importation business and his conspiracy to distribute substantial amounts of heroin here.

Robinson entered guilty pleas to Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 2nd Degree, a class A-2 felony, Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, a class B felony, and Conspiracy in the 4th Degree, a class E felony and admitted to selling heroin on two different occasions to an undercover New York State Police Investigator.

In addition, co-conspirator Stephan Banks, aka “Spazo”, 23, of Newark, N.J. was sentenced to 6 ½ years in state prison and 3 years of post-release supervision for his role in the sale of 350 bags of heroin, acting in concert and together with Robinson. Farrell said that the investigation revealed that Robinson conspired with Banks, who rented a room in a local Monticello motel to serve as the distribution point for his heroin trafficking business.  A search warrant issued for the motel room yielded an additional 300 bags of heroin that were seized, as well as $407.00 in United States Currency which was forfeited to the State of New York as part of the sentencing in this case.

Banks entered a guilty plea to Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, a class B felony.

Farrell praised the work of the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET), Fallsburg Police, Monticello Police, Liberty Police, New Jersey State Police, FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Criminal Investigators for their hard work in this case.  “The New York State Police CNET unit has been very active and very successful in Sullivan County investigating the source and suppliers of these dangerous narcotics and this is yet another example of their fine work and the collaborative efforts with local, state and federal law enforcement that these police officers utilize to maximize our collective ability to hold these drug dealers responsible and accountable for their actions.  This committed team of investigators and police officers are making a difference in Sullivan County.  Drug dealers should take heed – we are looking over your shoulders and we will do all within our power to bring you to justice and remove you from the community for an extended period of time.”, Farrell said.
