Rock Hill Man gets 5 years for selling heroin to undercover cop

Sullivan County District Attorney Jim Farrell announced that Bjorn Egenes, 28, of Rock Hill, N.Y. was sentenced in Sullivan County Court today to 5 years in prison and 2 years of post-release supervision for the sale of heroin to an undercover police officer in March of 2016.  Farrell said that the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with Homeland Security conducted an investigation into Egenes and determined he was distributing heroin from his home in Rock Hill.

A search warrant, prepared by the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office, was executed in March of 2016 and yielded quantities of marihuana, cocaine, and heroin, as well as packaging material, two digital scales and US Currency.  As part of his plea, Egenes forfeited a total of $9,719.00 in US Currency.  Egenes entered a plea of guilty to Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree and admitted to selling heroin to an undercover police officer.  Under the terms of the plea agreement, Egenes faced a maximum of 7 years in prison and prosecutors asked the Court to impose that sentence.

In an unrelated matter, Egenes also entered a plea of guilty to Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death for an accident that occurred on March 14, 2015 in Rock Hill that claimed the life of Susan McCormick, 57.  That accident was investigated by the New York State Police.  Egenes was sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison in connection with that guilty plea, with the sentences to run concurrently.

Farrell thanked the NYSP and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, who investigated the heroin distribution case, “Heroin is a deadly toxic poison that is ripping apart the fabric of our society and we will continue to investigate, arrest, and prosecute those who sell it in our communities.  The sentence here underscores my firm conviction that those that sell these dangerous drugs belong behind bars.  We will continue to disrupt the supply of this dangerous drug and seek prison sentences for the sellers.”
