District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Jeffrey Schuman, 36, of Monticello, N.Y. was sentenced in Sullivan County Court on Friday, February 10, 2017, to nine (9) years in prison and five (5) years of post-release supervision for Robbery in the 2nd Degree, a class C violent felony.

Farrell said that Schuman previously pled guilty and admitted that he forcibly robbed the clerk of the Forestburgh Road Citgo, in Monticello, on July 26, 2016 at about 7:30 a.m. by displaying what appeared to be a handgun and stealing cash.  Schuman was wearing a clown mask when he committed the robbery.

Monticello Police, assisted by members of the New York State Police, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office, investigated the robbery and arrested both Schuman and an accomplice, Stephanie Scanna, 32, also of Monticello.  Scanna has also been convicted by plea of guilty and is awaiting sentencing.

Police seized clothing and gloves worn by Schuman and a BB gun that was consistent with the one used in the robbery from Schuman’s home shortly after the robbery.

Farrell praised the work of the Monticello Police, the New York State Police and Investigators from his office, “This robbery was investigated and solved in the manner of a few hours due to the good work of the Monticello Police, the New York State Police and my office.  Now, as a result of that good cooperative investigative work, the perpetrator has been held responsible with a significant number of years behind bars.  The BB gun he used looked real and the clerk could not have known when he was being robbed that the gun was not real.”
