Middletown man selling drugs in Sullivan sentenced

MONTICELLO, NY — David Velazquez, 40, of Middletown, N.Y. 13 years in state prison and 5 years of post-release supervision on June 30. He had earlier pleaded guilty to charges related to conspiracy to distribute large amounts of heroin and cocaine in Sullivan and Orange counties.

Sullivan County District Attorney Jim Farrell said that Velazquez was the head of a substantial narcotics conspiracy.  Investigators executed a search warrant at Velazquez’s residence in Middletown in March 2016, and seized 182.2 grams of heroin, 293.5 grams of cocaine, as well as marijuana, a loaded revolver, materials used to cut cocaine and heroin, and over $59000 in cash.

Along with the prison sentence, Velazquez was ordered to forfeit the cash and two large flat screen TVs which were of his drug trafficking activities.

Velazquez had previously been convicted of drug charges in 2009 and received a six-year prison term.

This time he was arrested after a lengthy criminal investigation by the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET) which was assisted by the Liberty Police, the Fallsburg Police, the Monticello Police, the New York State Police (NYSP) Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the NYSP Forensic Investigation Center, the Sullivan County Sheriff, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, the Sullivan County DA’s Office, and the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Farrell said, “This defendant was dealing large quantities of both cocaine and heroin in our community and wasted little time getting back in the drug trafficking game after his release from prison after his first drug conviction.  I want to thank CNET and all of the police agencies who worked so hard to bring this drug dealer to justice. My office and my law enforcement partners will continue to work together to rid our streets of the purveyors of these poisons.  The message we are sending is loud and clear – deal drugs in our county and you will be investigated, you will be caught, you will be prosecuted and you will go to prison,” Farrell said.
