Lake Ariel — Police have arrested a 26-year-old Lake Ariel man for attempting to meet what he believed was a 13-year-old girl for the purposes of having sex.
Officials received a tip that Derek Criscuola had been having inappropriate online communications with under-aged girls on the internet and asking them for nude photos.
An agent with the state attorney general’s office set up a Facebook page and created the profile of a 13-year-old girl who became Facebook friends with Criscuola.
Over the course of a few days, the conversations between Criscuola and the agent posing as the teen turned sexual and Criscuola ultimately set up a plan to pick up the teen in Scranton.
Criscuola was arrested on January 13 at about 6:35 a.m.
According to court papers, Criscuola told agents he was going to try to “hook up” with the 13-year-old.
He was charged with several infractions including unlawful contact with a minor and statutory sexual assault, and remanded to the Lackawanna County Jail on $250,000 bail.
