Pike County District Attorney Ray Tonkin announced today that Jonathan Machiavello, 27, was sentenced to a period of incarceration of 3.5 years to 12 years in state prison for the crime of Statutory Sexual Assault.  A Pike county jury had found Machiavello guilty on 3 counts of Statutory Sexual Assault for incidents that had occurred in Dingman Township.  As a part of the sentence, Machiavello will be subject to Pennsylvania’s Megan’s Law that will require him to be registered as a sexual offender for a period of 25 years. 

The convictions came after a two-day trial that ended on January 20, 2017.  The charges were the result of acts occurring between July 21st and August 5th of 2014.  At that time, Machiavello was living in Pike County for approximately 11 months after moving to Dingman Township from another state.  Machiavello, who then was a 24-year-old man, was engaging in a sexual relationship with a then 15-year-old girl.  The relationship was discovered by a parent of the girl who promptly reported the matter to the Pennsylvania State Police.

The State Police, with the assistance of the District Attorney’s Office, conducted an investigation that led to Machiavello’s arrest.  First Assistant District Attorney Bruce DeSarro prosecuted the case.  DeSarro stated that, “victimization takes many forms and in this case it came from a man in his mid-twenties taking advantage of a teenage girl and using that age difference to help facilitate these crimes.”  Machiavello’s release and supervision will be subject to and monitored by the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole.
