Lifetime achievement awards to be bestowed

LAKE ARIEL, PA — Join Lacawac Sanctuary for an intimate food experience surrounded by the beauty of the sanctuary on August 11, when guests sit down surrounded by the forest to a supper that celebrates truly local cuisine. Dine al fresco at Lacawac’s 115-year-old Watres Lodge, and enjoy sustainably grown farm food expertly prepared by Settlers Hospitality Group.

The 2018 dinner will feature cocktails, dinner stations at the Historic Watres Lodge, live music and a silent auction. The cost per person is $85; tickets can be purchased in advance by calling Lacawac at 570/689-9494 or visiting Lacawac.org to purchase tickets online.

During this third annual farm-to-plate dinner, the Lacawac Board of Trustees and staff will honor two individuals and a company that have given tirelessly to Lacawac and its growth over the years. The Lifetime Achievement in Research award will go to Dr. Clyde Goulden, The Academy of Natural Science, Philadelphia; the Lifetime Achievement in Education will go to The Dime Bank; and the Lifetime Achievement in Preservation award will go to William Leishear, Lacawac trustee.

Among his many accomplishments, Goulden was an associate curator at the Academy of Natural Sciences, served on the board of directors of Lacawac Sanctuary and received a National Science Foundation grant to conduct research on Lake Lacawac. Currently he serves as the curator emeritus at the Academy of Natural Sciences, Drexel University.

The Dime Bank is a community bank based in Northeast PA with branches in Pike, Wayne and Lackawanna counties. It supports organizations in the area, such as Lacawac, with financial donations to enrich the lives of everyone living here.

Leishear grew up in Northeastern Pennsylvania and spent a lot of time in the Lake Wallenpaupack area since the mid-1950s. After 30 years in the Philadelphia area at school and working with an engineering company, he bought a house in Pike county in 1989 and moved back to the area full time in 1999.  In that year he was introduced to Lacawac. He joined the board of directors in 1999 and served on the operations committee. He has been involved in many projects at Lacawac.
