Watershed recreation newsletter now available

CATSKILLS AND HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has announced the release of its 2019 Watershed Recreation Newsletter. The newsletter, which can be viewed here (, provides information for those who enjoy outdoor activities on the region’s water-supply lands and reservoirs.

NYC watershed recreation spans over 136,000 acres, including marked hiking trails, family-friendly walking paths, day-use areas for picnics and more. The newsletter provides links to interactive maps and information about permits, new recreation areas and expansions, invasive species to look out for and becoming a volunteer.

Opening day of trout season

New York State:

April 1 for brook, brown and rainbow; lake trout and splake (a hybrid cross of male brook trout and female lake trout)



March 30 for 18 counties in southeast PA

April 13, statewide opening day
