Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreational River seeks volunteers

UPPER DELAWARE RIVER — The National Park Service is seeking eager outdoor enthusiasts to volunteer as watershed stewards to assist during the busiest times at Upper Delaware River boat launches and access points on weekends from June 8 through September 2.

Those interested should plan to attend a training session on Friday, June 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  at the Lake Wallenpaupack Education Center in Hawley.

Stewards will play an important role in stopping the introduction and transport of invasive species via fishing tackle, footwear and boat trailers. They will conduct visual inspections, interview water-body users and encourage them to properly clean all of their equipment before using it on another body of water.

RSVP is encouraged. For more information and to sign up as a volunteer, contact watershed steward volunteer coordinator Jessica Newbern at 570/729-7842 ext. 3301.
