BioBlitz scheduled for June 30

STARLIGHT, PA — The Upper Delaware BioBlitz will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 30 near the intersection of Hancock Highway and Crosstown Highway. At a BioBlitz, biologists and volunteers gather to collect, identify, and catalogue every living thing on the designated property in a 24-hour period. The goal is to introduce kids to scientists working in the field. Nine teams will focus on particular categories of life, including aquatic insects, birds, fish, mammals, mosses and lichens, mushrooms, plants, grasses, trees, terrestrial bugs, reptiles and amphibians.

At the event, you will be able to view the collected specimens and talk to the experts; learn to take nature photos from a professional photographer; take walks with scientists to learn about native plants, bugs and mushrooms; learn how to draw nature; and enjoy an original performance of “The Four Seasons” by NACL Theatre. There will also be a special program on Friday, June 29 at 8 p.m. with bat acoustic ID and bug-light tent demos.

The event is free. For more information email info@upperdelawarebioblitz.com.
