Rose E. (Kraack) Sheppard

Rose E. (Kraack) Sheppard of Cochecton, NY, a longtime resident of the area, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones, fulfilling her strong desire to remain at home until her time on earth would cease. She was 90.

The daughter of the late Curtis and Anna (Steffens) Davis, she was born February 5, 1927 in Calkins, PA, where she grew up on the family farm.

Rose worked for many years as tax collector for the Town of Cochecton. She was a secretary for a family business supply store in Jeffersonville, NY and, in her early years, worked as a waitress for the Nutshell Hotel.

Rose was a past Vice President of the Lake Huntington Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. A family statement reads, “Rose was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a great-great grandmother. She took great pride in and care of her family. She was an avid reader and passed the long winter months completing puzzles. She also enjoyed nature and the outdoors, watching the birds, deer and other wildlife surrounding her home. She will truly be missed by everyone.”

She is survived by four children: Edward Kraack and his companion, Ruth Ann Luning; Elaine Pierpoint and her husband, William; Ronald Kraack and his wife, Joanne; Julie Sheppard and her companion Theron Worden; seven grandchildren: Jason Kraack and his wife, Wendy; Jenna Sayers and her husband, Jeff; Derin Kraack and his wife, Alicia; Stacey Hill; Trisha Kraack and her companion, Ben Freeman; Lacey Kraack; Evan Kraack and his wife, Katherine; 11 great-grandchildren: two great-great grandchildren; one sister: Shirley Utegg and her husband, Harold; one brother: Elwin Davis and his wife, Claudia; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

Rose was predeceased by her husband Edward J. Kraack Sr.; her brother Harry Davis; three sisters: Marjorie Davis, Marie Reeves and Doris Messina.

A private service was held at the convenience of the family.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
