MONTICELLO, NY — A Sullivan County grand jury has indicted two men, in separate cases, on charges related to the sale and distribution of heroin.

George Kirschbaum, 32, of Monticello was charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance and possession, both felonies. According to the indictment Kirschbaum sold heroin to another person in the Village of Monticello on three different occasions in October 2018. When his apartment was searched, he was found to be in possession of more than an eighth of an ounce of the drug.

District Attorney Jim Farrelll said that Kirschbaum was arrested after an investigation by the Sullivan County Sheriff, Monticello Police, Sullivan County District Attorney and Homeland Security Investigations.

If Kirschbaum is found guilty, he could face up to 20 years in state prison. He is currently being held in the Sullivan County Jail.

In a separate case, Richard Mead, 45, of Livingston Manor, was indicted for possession of heroin and for selling the drug near a public school. The indictment alleges that Mead sold heroin to another person within 1,000 feet of the Livingston Manor Center School in October.

Farrell said Mead was arrested after an investigation by the Sullivan County Sheriff, New York State Police, Monticello Police, Sullivan County District Attorney and Homeland Security Investigations, and faces up to nine years in prison if convicted. Mead is currently being held in the Sullivan County Jail.

Farrell said, “My office will continue to work collaboratively with our law enforcement partners to investigate and prosecute those individuals who traffic in deadly narcotics, and heroin will remain a priority.”
