New Tusten tax bills to be mailed

NARROWSBURG, NY — There were errors in the recently mailed 2019 Town of Tusten tax bills. The town is asking residents not to pay these bills and planned to send out new bills with corrections January 9 and 10.

Supervisor Carol Wingert called an emergency meeting of the town board on January 4 at 6:15 p.m., where the board passed a resolution to rectify what they said was a clerical error on the bills.

A post on the town website said the error was related to the fire department. “The error was within the recently extended Narrowsburg Fire District, some parcels were overcharged and some were not charged at all,” according to the town.  The error on the tax bill was related to the merging of the fire districts

In May 2018, the town board voted unanimously to dissolve the Tusten Fire Protection District and to extend the Narrowsburg Fire District into all of the Town of Tusten. The action was expected to eventually lead to the merger of the two departments.

Property owners will have 30 days from the date the corrected bills were mailed to pay the tax without interest, pursuant to state law.
