Management company signs on to waterpark
MONTICELLO, NY —A company called Benchmark Resorts & Hotels, based in Houston, TX, has signed on to manage the Kartrite Resort and Indoor Waterpark located on the campus of Resorts World Catskills in the Town of Thompson.
The company manages about 50 high-end resorts, hotels and conference centers around the country and internationally, with many of them located in Texas and Florida.
The Kartrite is scheduled to open at the end of March and will feature a two-acre indoor waterpark, multiple restaurants, a spa, a ropes course and an entertainment arcade.
“We are very excited to be part of this highly innovative project,” says Benchmark CEO Alex Cabañas. “The Kartrite has completely re-imagined the idea of a perfect family vacation destination. This will be a resort for all seasons, using the most current technology to provide a safe, exciting experience for every guest, regardless of age.”
The Kartrite promotes its transparent “Texlon” roof, which allows the sun to shine through throughout the year. A press release from Benchark says the temperature inside the waterpark will remain at 84 degrees at all times. “The energy efficient, eco-friendly material also allows for natural tanning without exposure to the harmful effects of UV rays, protecting children and parents alike,” the release says.
The Kartrite expects to create 500 permanent jobs—nearly 100 are already posted on the job-recruiting site Indeed—and up to 250 construction jobs. The company held a job fair January 28 and 29 at SUNY Sullivan to find people to fill its numerous positions. When it opens, the project developers expect to draw “adventure seekers and families from the greater New York metropolitan area and beyond.”
