Former PA attorney general Kathleen Kane appeal denied

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has denied an appeal by former Pennsylvania attorney general Kathleen Kane regarding her conviction for leaking information about a grand jury investigation to the press.

Kane made history when she became the first woman in the state elected to the office of attorney general.

Kane was convicted in August 2016, and resigned the day after the jury delivered its verdict. She was sentenced to 10 to 23 months in jail. She remained free on $75,000 bail. She may soon go to prison.

Before she was accused, a scandal involving pornographic emails erupted in the state criminal justice community, and implicated two former state prosecutors Frank Fina and Marc Costanzo.  Kane sought to use some of the emails in question as part of her defense, but the court would not allow it.
