MONTICELLO, NY — A total of $38,864 has been awarded to eight organizations across Sullivan County for a variety of projects involving recreation, historic preservation and the arts. This money will leverage over $80,000 in total project costs.
This is on top of more than $61,000 in awards from the Plans & Progress Program’s first round in May, meaning the $100,000 allocated for 2018 has been completely subscribed, and applications will no longer be accepted.
“We received upwards of $200,000 in requests this year, far more than ever before,” noted District 9 legislator Alan Sorensen, who chairs the legislature’s planning committee. “Having brought this idea forward to my colleagues two years ago, I am thrilled with the success of Plans & Progress, as it demonstrates the need for and value of county investment in community initiatives.”
Recipients are:
Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, $3,900 to begin the first phase of a rebranding campaign that will result in a redesigned name and logo.
Delaware Valley Opera, $600 to purchase a portable lighting system for performances across the county. The system will first be used in DVO’s River Revels series this upcoming winter season.
Mamakating Little League, $7,320 to construct a new juniors field and renovate the existing concession stand in Wurtsboro.
Theatrical Arts at Forestburgh, $7,000 to assist with the inaugural Forestburgh Playhouse Spring Break Musical Theater Intensive program in Spring 2019.
Town of Lumberland, $3,225 to restore and update the town’s veterans’ memorial, including the installation of three new bronze plaques and the repointing of the steps.
Town of Mamakating, $10,000 to enhance and expand the Mamakating Environmental Education & Interpretive Center. The town will be converting the existing garage into a new classroom, lighting the entry signs, purchasing additional educational materials and installing an irrigation system to support existing and future gardens.
Livingston Manor Chamber of Commerce, $1,492 to retrofit the decorative streetlamps along Main Street with energy-efficient LED lights.
Twin Bridge Play School, $5,147 to make several necessary repairs and upgrades to its facility in Liberty, including deck repairs, door replacement and the installation of a new UV filtration system.
