James Leone, a geologist with the New York State Geological Survey, is pictured at the March 1 meeting of the Upper Delaware Council. Leone updated a high-resolution mapping project to better determine the river valley’s surface history, or geomorphology. The first of the two-part project, which began last spring covering Hancock to Narrowsburg, wraps up in July. The southerly section work extends to Sparrowbush and will begin in 2018, pending renewed National Park Service funding of $150,000. Aside from the educational value, the project has located sand and gravel deposits, and the maps will help prospective home builders by locating areas with unstable sub-surface formations, Leone said.

Fighting Pike’s senior isolation and hunger

MILFORD, PA — Every week, about 160 Pike seniors wait at their doors for a familiar and much anticipated delivery. They’re waiting for a hot lunch that they probably would not have if that delivery didn’t arrive. They’re waiting for frozen meals that they might not be able to afford otherwise, or get out to collect, or readily prepare.
