James E. Janowski, of Narrowsburg, NY, a longtime resident of the area, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at home surrounded by his family. He was 77.

The son of the late John A. and Pauline Wall Janowski, he was born April 8, 1941 in Olyphant, PA.

Jim was a U.S. Army Korean Veteran and had attended Keystone College. He ran his own auto body shop and was an auto body instructor at Job Corps, Callicoon, NY. He was a member of the American Legion, Olyphant, PA, and the Narrowsburg Fire Dept., and former member of Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club, Tusten Lions Club and the Masons F & A.M.

A family statement reads, “Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a great guy. He was an avid reader. He could fix anything. The more complicated the project, the more he enjoyed it. He could solve anything. He will truly be missed by everyone.”

Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marjorie Stranahan Janowski; four children: Kenneth Janowski of Honesdale, PA, Wanda Vajda and her husband Stephen of Easton, PA, Todd Janowski and his wife Lisa of Honesdale, PA, and Katrina Heinle and her husband Brian of Cochecton Center, NY; four grandchildren: Hunter and Logan Vajda, and Mya and Taylor Heinle; brother: David Janowski and his wife Linda of North Carolina; sisters: Irene Stepien and her husband Max of Olyphant, PA, Marie Pickering and her husband John of Olyphant, PA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation took place at Maple Hill Crematory. A memorial service will be held later this summer, with a date to be announced later. Burial of his cremains will be in Glen Cove Cemetery, Narrowsburg, NY.
