MIDDLETOWN, NY — The Orange County Child Abuse Unit arrested a 62-year-old woman for assault, criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a minor after the woman allegedly pointed a gun at three children she was caring for.

State police arrested and charged (no first name given) Michail, of Circleville, NY, following a report to the New York State Child Abuse Hotline. The children she was watching are six, 13 and 15 years of age. The investigation revealed that Michail was attempting to teach the children some type of lesson while holding the firearm in front of the children. During the course of the investigation, additional information was developed that she caused an injury to one of the children when she disciplined that child. A request for an order of protection was made on behalf of the children.

The Orange County Child Abuse Unit comprises members from the New York State Police, Village of Goshen Police, City of Port Jervis Police and Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
