Sullivan deputy performs Heimlich

ELDRED, NY — On April 29, at approximately 1:00 a.m., deputy sheriffs Matthew Robbins and Justin McFadden were having a meal at the 24/7 Diner on the grounds of the Resorts World Casino in the Town of Thompson. The deputies were alerted to a male patron in the diner who was choking.

While McFadden alerted medical personnel, Robbins performed the Heimlich maneuver on the patron who had slumped over and passed out. The deputy was able to dislodge the piece of food and the man began breathing again. The victim was examined by emergency medical personnel and refused further medical aid.

Sheriff Mike Schiff commended the deputies for their quick action. Deputy Matthew Robbins just graduated the police academy on March 15th. Deputy McFadden is his field training officer.

Delgado on pre-existing conditions

WASHINGTON, DC — Rep. Antonio Delgado on May 9 voted to pass H.R. 986, the Protecting Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions Act, legislation to ensure protections for 133 million Americans with pre-existing health conditions and combat what he called the Trump Administration’s sabotage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

“I’m proud to join my colleagues today to affirm protections for 133 million Americans with pre-existing conditions and ensure they can access affordable, quality health care—not junk plans that fail to provide coverage when Americans need it most,” said Delgado.

Last month, Delgado led the introduction of H.R. 2000, Medicare-X public-option legislation that would combine Medicare physician networks and reimbursement rates with ACA coverage standards to create a new, public health insurance option available to all Americans. Delgado also voted for measures to lower the cost of prescription drugs.
