Rebranding of the Adult Care Center
LIBERTY, NY — Sullivan County owns the former Adult Care Center, and several years ago there was talk about possibly selling it. But ultimately, county lawmakers and officials decided to go in a different direction and make significant investment and improvements at the facility. It seems that strategy has paid off.
On May 18, county officials unveiled a new name for the facility: the Care Center at Sunset Lake. The facility is located just a few feet from Sunset Lake, and at the unveiling, perhaps 50 employees and residents gathered outside to enjoy the sunshine and listen to remarks.
Legislator Nadia Rajsz, chair of the Health and Family Services Committee, noted the progress made by the facility’s employees. She said, “The employees are the heart and soul of this place. They are professional, they are dedicated, and they care for the residents here. It’s tough, demanding work, yet under a team approach by our administrator Frank Murphy, they’ve raised our federal rating from three stars to five stars, the highest rating that the government gives.”
Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther, who is also a nurse, said, “When we rebrand this, hopefully people will know that we are providing quality of care, and I was looking at the name ‘Care Center at Sunset Lake,’ so really this is all about caring for people in the sunset of their lives.”
County manager Josh Potosek said, “We realize that even though this is a nonprofit, publicly operated facility, we are in a competitive environment with other nursing homes and short-term physical rehabilitation centers in the region. So we are embarking on a campaign to remind people why selecting the Care Center at Sunset Lake is a wise choice where they can be confident they and their loved ones will receive the treatment they deserve.”
