Alfred, NY — Narrowsburg native Richard Lander has been named to the Academic All American Second Team. The announcement came on November 18 from the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSID.)

Lander, who attends Alfred University (AU) in western New York State, is only one of two college soccer players who are native New Yorkers to be selected for this honor.

According to an article on the AU Saxon’s website, “This is Lander’s second season in a row of him earning a Second Team selection while he is carrying a 3.94 GPA in mechanical engineering. He ends his four-year career as a Saxon accumulating 64 points from 22 goals and 20 assists and scoring six game-winning goals. He is 4-of-6 on penalty kicks and has taken a total of 281 shots with 137 on target. During his collegiate career, he has helped the Saxons earn an overall record of 33-33-8 with a home record of 21-12-5, away of 10-19-3 and neutral of 2-2.”

According to Paul Vecchio, AU director of athletics, “No AU soccer player that I’m aware of has received Richard’s level of commendation both academically and athletically in the last decade for sure.”

The event marks the end of Lander’s college soccer career.
