VILLAGE OF MONTICELLO — A 45-year-old Monticello man was arrested after allegedly breaking into a couple’s home, stealing various items from them and assaulting them.

Monticello police say they responded to a call from a 33-year-old female and a 32-year old male, who told them Jason Carnell had assaulted them after kicking his way through their front door. They told police the woman had fled the home, but Carnell chased and grabbed her and tried to drag her to his car. However, she was able to break free and call police.

When police arrived they saw Carnell running from the area, but they were able to locate him a short time later. When they tried to arrest him, Carnell resisted and tried to run away. Sergeant Jason Corley used a taser to subdue Carnel, and he was taken to be arraigned.

The victims were transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center, where the man was treated for a broken nose and a cut to his head, and the woman was treated for injuries to her face.

Carnell was sent to the county jail without bail by Monticello Justice Josephine Finn.
