Man arrested in Wallkill shooting

TOWN OF WALLKILL, NY — New York State Police have arrested Jaylin Smith, 18, for being involved in an incident on August 31 in which he and another man allegedly robbed five people at gunpoint.

During the robbery, one victim, Myles Morales, 19, of Middletown, was shot four times. He has been hospitalized since the attack. Smith was arrested on October 14 during a traffic stop on Route 9 in the Town of Wappinger. He was charged with robbery, assault and possession of a controlled substance.

Smith possessed 47 small bags of heroin on his person at the time of the arrest. He was sent to jail without bail.

The investigation into the shooting is continuing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call state police in Middletown at 845/344-5300.
