Krebs reinstatement protested

GLEN SPEY, NY — Scot Krebs, the former principal of the Eldred Junior/Senior High School, was reassigned to administrative duties by then-interim Superintendent Dr. John Morgano after a jury awarded a $1 million settlement to Anthony Motta Jr. in November 1017. Part of the plan advanced by Morgano—now the permanent superintendent—as part of a restructuring of the district is to re-assign him again, this time as principal of the district’s elementary school.

Anthony’s mother, Christine Horne Motta, protested with her daughter and grandson on March 26, early in the morning at Circle Park in Glen Spey.

Christine said she was hoping to prevent Krebs from becoming a principal once again. She said after the trial a petition was drawn up seeking Krebs’ removal. She said, “Obviously he thought there was an issue. But now that there is a budget problem and a deficit, he wants to reinstate him as a principal and the Dignity Act Coordinator, [at] which he already failed, and that was proven in a court of law, so why would you put him back in with younger children, who don’t have a voice?”

She said she has a new petition with some 200 signatures at this point. She further said, “This is not just about my son, because I know there’s going to be issues with Scott Krebs. He was proven to be negligent in a court of law, and it’s going to continue.”

In a phone interview, Morgano said that Christine at one point asked him why Krebs had not been fired. He said, “People with tenure can be fired for cause. In his case there was no cause. He truly likes kids, and I think he’ll do a fine job in the elementary school.”
