Posted

Press release: On Monday November 26, 2018 at approximately 5:04 PM the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Patrol responded to a 911 call of a passenger car and a tractor trailer involved in a collision on State Route 17 eastbound just east of exit 107 in the Town of Thompson.

At the scene deputies determined that a 2015 Honda Civic had been traveling eastbound in the passing lane when it collided with the center median guide rail.  The Honda bounced off the guide rail, crossed the passing lane into the path of a tractor trailer which was proceeding eastbound in the driving lane. The front driver’s side wheel of the tractor trailer crushed the passenger compartment of the Honda seriously injuring the driver, Emily Henry, age 25, of Montgomery, NY.

Henry was extricated by the Rock Hill Fire Department and transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris by Mobile Medic. She was later transferred to Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown where she expired.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Joshua Hill, 27, of Waterloo, NY was uninjured.

Both vehicles were impounded. The tractor trailer is being inspected by the NY State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit.

State Route 17 eastbound was shut down for three hours between exits 107 and 108.

NYS DOT and Monticello Fire Dept. assisted at the scene.

  The investigation is continuing
