LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — Catskill Mountainkeeper, as co-chair of the Catskill Park Coalition, is seeking volunteers to participate in a trip to Albany to lobby for state funding for Catskill Park. Mountainkeeper is seeking a Catskill package of $10 million.
In a press release the group said, “We are thrilled to see that Governor Cuomo recently announced that New York State has committed to spending at least $5 million in the Catskills to conserve land, improve signage, increase trail mileage and upgrade our campgrounds. Catskill Mountainkeeper applauds this commitment to improve the region we were founded to protect.”
But Mountainkeeper is seeking an even stronger commitment from the state in order to “adequately preserve and protect the park’s character and economy.” The money would come from several sources and would be used to fund a number of different projects.
Catskill Park Awareness Day will take place on February 7, and interested parties can sign up for the trip at www.catskillmountainkeeper.org.
