The blizzard of 2017

All of the weather forecasters predicted a blizzard and they were right. Snow was falling heavily in the Upper Delaware Valley at 10:00 am on Tuesday, and was expected to continue through the day and evening.

By 10:00 am there were 11" on the ground in Liberty. A total of 24" to 30" inches of snow is expected to accumulate before its all over.  The storm has shifted to the west from its earlier predicted path, and that has led to a travel ban in all of Broome County.

States of emergency have been declared in Sullivan, Ulster and Orange counties. At a 10:15 news conference Governor Andrew Cuomo said there are no significant power outages in the state, although power outages have been reported in Narrowsburg and Cochecton.

On the Pennsylvania side of the river, blizzard warnings remain in effect until 8:00 pm in Wayne, Lackawanna, Luzerne and Pike counties.
Officials warn residents not to drive if at all possible because driving will be made hazardous by whiteout conditions at times.

Almost all flights at regional airports have been cancelled, and schools and other facilities are closed.

Snow is coming down now at better than 2" per hour.

The Weather Channel, which is the only organization that names winter storms, has called this one Stella.
